They’d arrive late on shore after eight hours at sea.
They sang by the moonlight sweet melodies.
Each oar stroke brought bodies closer to port,
and each oar stroke brought hearts further apart
Phosphorescence framed their trail through the dark,
but just as they faded so did her heart.
They rowed against tide, and on the outside everything seemed fine,
but everything was not fine.
Just as ocean’s tide changed in star light
so changed her heart's tides in this night.
Their rowing brought them close to home,
but it’d not be the one they’d known.
Wet feet cold, bodies sore,
weary bones, heart so worn.
As they rowed by God’s dim light
they rowed into the night.
